Making Waves: The Cocoa Cinnamon Story (2022)

In 2011, Areli and Leon moved to Durham and started a coffee business out of a bike cart. Now they have three thriving shops and a roastery, winning national recognition as 2022 Microroaster of the Year. Areli’s roots in Mexico and Leon’s love of history and spices culminate as Cocoa Cinnamon and Little Waves Coffee Roasters, gems at the heart of our Durham community. Made in partnership with Visit NC. Screened at the 2023 River Run Film Festival, 2022 New Orleans Film Festival, and 2022 NC Latin American Film Festival.

A short documentary following Trevor Pharr, a third-year student at UNC Chapel Hill, and his experience as a member of the UNC Clef Hangers, the oldest a cappella group on campus.

Abuela (2023)

A sometimes magical, nearly always neorealist narrative short film, Abuela follows a grandmother, Amelia, who has late-stage Alzheimer’s, in her last thirty-six hours in her home, and the interactions she has with her granddaughter Nayeli, who has come to visit, in that time. Through a series of match-cuts and crossfades indicating flashes back in time and Nayeli’s memories of her and her grandmother, parts of Amelia’s story and being are pieced together. Funded by the UNC Rick Dees Scholarship. Official Selection of Longleaf Film Festival 2024, awarded Longleaf Film Festival's 2024 Latin American Communities Prize.
